EARTHLY COSMIC FACTS

  1. The disk of the Moon spans 1 degree of arc in the sky, and some say that - thus there are 360 degrees in a circle.
  2. It takes 4 minutes (241 seconds) for an object to pass in front of the disk of the Moon - 1 degree of arc.
  3. The Earth rotates towards our East, where the Sun rises, as it were, with 1 complete rotation every 24 hours.
  4. At the equinox, the Sun rises due East and sets due West with exactly 12 hours of daylight (6 AM to 6 PM).
  5. If you look closely, you can see the shadow of the Earth as a dark blue crescent on the atmosphere as the Sun is setting.
  6. The North Star appears to be the axis of the heavens, all of the other heavenly bodies seem to revolve around the North Star.
  7. The North Star is always the same number of degrees up from the horizon, according to your latitude.
  8. At the summer solstice, the Sun never sets above the arctic circle and the Sun never rises in the antarctic circle.
